Hi all. This Marshall G50RCD is a transistor amp........eeeeeeerrr. I don't normally do transistor stuff,
although I am able to do so. I absolutely hate doing them. They're no fun and
are boring. As this amp belonged to a very good friend of mine however, I felt obliged to "break the rules" and do it!!...
It came in as a non-worker and in the end had no reverb either.
Anyway, after a change of the blown apart output chip and also one of the other chips (reverb return circuit, can be seen in
the lowest photo below: to the left and down a bit. I have fitted a chip base here now too), I got it sorted out for him.
The annoying part about these is that one has to put everything back together each time to be able check
things. Personally, I think companies like Marshall should have stuck to good-old
tube amps, instead of churning out budget-level transistor gear like this, but that's only my
opinion of course!
Job done! My friend is happy, and that's the important thing. All's well that ends
well..........
- John.
