"This Carlsbro 50 Top was rescued from of all places...a skip! It was however in a bad state. One fuse holder was
broken and the power cable had no chassis grommet or proper anchorage. One of the tube bases had been on fire (probably being used without a speaker connected
again.) It had been worked on before and had been bodged here, there and everywhere. Even the bottom section of the wooden case was held on with "gaffa tape"!
I re-glued and screwed the bottom section of the case properly, repaired and serviced the whole amplifier accordingly, and it ended up sounding excellent.
These Carlsbro 50 and 100 watt "Top" amps were a budget version of the TC range but with less
facilities - just simply volume, bass, mid and treble. A single channel was
employed, with a high and low gain inputs. They always performed well, and in fact Carlsbro did a re-issue of this for a short run in 2003 - 2005."
