CHAMP ELECTRONICS -" THE VINTAGE VALVE AMP HOSPITAL"

SERVICING A CARLSBRO CS60TR Mk II TREMOLO/REVERB AMPLIFIER HEAD

Another 60 watt Mk2 here. This time a quite rare amp, being a CS60TR (Tremolo/Reverb). Carlsbro didn't make many of these heads, but the amp was used in a combo for a short run too. All the Mk2's had the sloping top front panel and were covered with dark blue honeycomb cloth.

I feel pretty sure that this was the only Carlsbro model to have Tremolo.

Just the two red knob centres missing here....I did replace them of course.

The output transformer was actually faulty, even though it had been changed previously at some point. Notice how it had been riveted-on......save having to remove the whole main board....for access to the mounting nuts & bolts!

Pretty full here!

Notice to the left of the photo that somebody has fitted a bias-pot. Not the neatest way of doing so, but it did work OK.

The bias-pot again plus.....look at the wiring on the impedance selector. Not only was the OTX faulty but it was wired arse-about-tit too! (That's a technical expression which means the wrong way around!)

In the middle of this shot is the combined LDR & Neon for the Tremolo. Same principle as Fender using an ECC83/12AX7 for the Oscillator.

After a rewind of the output transformer, a few other minor fixes she was all good except for a persistent crackle! This turned out to be a corroded fork-receptacle in one of the pre-amp tube bases. Note the difference between the corroded and a new one! Changing the one responsible pin receptacle is much easier than having to change the whole base!

I never had the back panel with this one. I just love good old reliable Carlsbro amps!
