SERVICING OF TWO CARLSBRO 60TC AMPLIFIER HEADS

AMPLIFIER 1:

These are really great sounding amps....especially with Carlsbro's own idea of adding a "Limiter" and a "Response" controls.

Typically the whole board has to be removed for access to the nuts & bolts in order to remove a faulty transformer....... as was yet again the case here.

All completely finished here.

Virtually all the Carlsbro amps used series'd caps for the main HT supply. Usually 2 pairs in series/parallel before the choke (or 100 ohm, 5 watt resistor in the case of the 50 & 100 Top amps) and a single series'd pair after the choke (or resistor). With the availability of 500 volt caps being so much more readily available nowadays, far better results are achieved by simply putting a pair of these in the amp(s).....one before the choke and one after, as can be clearly seen in the above photo!

The front panel of the Mk2 Version.

And obviously the back.....complete. However, note how the original Bulgin power socket has been changed for a modern I.E.C. connector (Kettle socket)......a very obvious thing to do nowadays as the Bulgin plug is no longer available and...with the new UK regulations is actually illegal now......well at least on new equipment!

AMPLIFIER 2:

The front panel of the earlier version of the same amp......still a 60TC, but with a different silk-screen layout.

Actually, I don't really know why I added this photo? Let's face it, a back panel is a back panel! Anyway, just for correctness...this shows the back of the earlier version. Also, note the original broken Bulgin power connector.
