SERVICING OF A LANEY LC50 COMBO
AMPLIFIER
Everything out yet again……just to change one bloody 'iffy pot!
One of the output tubes was duff so I put a pair of JJ KT77’s in this one…They sound really good with these!
PCB back in place.
There was also a big problem with one of the output tube bases. This needed to be changed.
The replaced bases. These
are really good bases. They are “glass-filled nylon”. There
are holes between each pin which greatly reduces the risk of arcing.
They are actually “Octal relay bases”, and they have an
extra two flanges for the relay retaining clip to fit too. These extra
side flanges make them a very good & sturdy base for tubes. Some
years ago I bought a batch of 200 of these, I wish I could find the
same ones now as I have only about 10 left!
They are also the PCB mount type. However, I don’t have a problem wiring to them….as can be seen above.
All finished, and looking pretty tidy/neat too!
RAY'S EMAIL REGARDING HIS LANEY:
"Hi John.
Pleased
to report that I have given the amp a good testing now with a big range
of guitars. The Strat sparkles, the Tele spanks and the Gibson's all
sing and grunt like good 'uns!
As
well as your obvious electronic repair skills, the adding of the JJ
KT77's has really improved this amp! Many thanks for everything. I will
speak to you soon regarding the Burman.
Best Regards, Ray."
