Hi there!
Like Hiwatt and Sound City, early Laney amps were very well built and usually very reliable. However, like many amps of old age they can have main smoothing electrolytic cap problems. It's not a big or expensive deal to put things to rights though!
Generally, the later Laney products really sound good, although they have reverted to PCB's. Most of their tube amps are reasonably reliable, but they have also included some "surface-mount" technology (like the minute components used in a mobile phone). This sometimes can be a problem but........generally not too bad. Some of the earlier Laney's tended to use rather unnecessarily high voltages too, but other than this they are pretty good amps!! Thanks for your interest in the site.
John.
