THE LINEAR PRODUCTS COMPANY

The following history of the Linear Company has been kindly provided by Howard from Leeds:

Linear started in the early sixties at Electron Works in Armley, Leeds. (Photo attached)  Most of there products were sold either through the RSC chain of shops or a company in Leeds called Sona Electrical. They were generally badged to suit the reseller. Sona used the name Goldenair  and RSC had their own name on them. The products were also sold directly from Linear themselves by mail order. If bought directly from them, amplifiers could be bought in kit form for self assembly. In the early seventies, another company was founded in Leeds to run alongside Linear Products. This was called FAL which stood for Futuristic Aids Limited. This part of the company specialised in the manufacture of transistorised equipment and especially Disco type gear. This was also sold by RSC. Generally the quality of this gear was “Budget” (read as cheap and nasty!!!) The FAL factory was located at Bramley, in Leeds just a few miles away from Linear's works at Armley. In the late seventies, both companies moved together to a larger factory in Pudsey, Leeds where they remained until the companies’ demise in the mid eighties. In these latter years, they produced a few of their own model amps and assembled Vox AC30s and Hi-Watt amps under license.
