LINEAR L50  AMPLIFIER WITH 807 TUBES

linear6a.jpg

As this one belongs to my friend Garth in Wales, UK. I can tell you that it is not a genuine Linear kit-form amp. Garth is also a tech-guy and he converted this factory assembled L50 from EL34’s to 807’s himself. He has also replaced many of the duff components (as is usually the case with these) and improved the main smoothing too. One thing he didn’t think of doing though was to change the amp to fixed-bias! Instead he has left the 807’s running in self (cathode) bias and this is literally “cooking-them!” He has however now decided to change it to fixed-bias at my suggestion.

When Garth first got this amp the output transformer was duff, so he changed it for this Danbury one…….far better than the original anyway!

Here you can clearly see Garth has now converted the amp to fixed bias, as I suggested. He has used multi-turn pots for this.....good man!

You can clearly see here that the Danbury output transformer Garth has used has a far bigger stack-size than the original Linear one!
