SERVICING A MARSHALL MODEL 50 Mk II LEAD COMBO AMPLIFIER

I stand to be corrected here but, I think these might have been “mail order only (?)”. You don’t see many of them and this one was in pristine condition.

Though most Marshall products are well designed, one has to be a bit wary on removing one of these from the case. The four large M6 bolts obviously hold the chassis to the back panel but, the six smaller screws down each side of the top panel are simply wood screws. When you start to remove these with the amp in an upright position; the weight of the chassis tries to flip the panel outwards! This puts a big strain on the screws as they are being removed. It is essential that the amp is laid face down for removal. I personally would have used M5 screws here with “Tee-nuts” on the inside, rather than the wood screws!

A nice amp, completely untouched & just needing a general good service.

I did replace the tired pair of EL34’s on this one.

Assembled by “Jean” and with a test date of “14th September 1979”. Nice stuff!
