CHAMP ELECTRONICS -" THE VALVE AMP HOSPITAL"

SERVICING OF A KOCH MULTITONE 100 Watt GUITAR AMPLIFIER

Brought to me by a band for the job of replacing just two of the accidentally broken effects loop jack sockets, this Koch amp head, "designed and handcrafted" by Koch Guitar Electronics in the Netherlands, is actually a very impressive amplifier.

Though I have never been a fan of printed circuit boards for valve (tube) amplifiers, I have to say this is one of the best I have seen and worked on. It is very well built, sounded great, and produced all the power from the quad of EL34's that it was supposed to do.

The whole thing is solidly built throughout, very neat and with plenty of facilities.

The only problem with the simple job of changing the two damaged jack sockets was what I had to remove to be able to do this! Just check out the two photos at the bottom of this page to see how much actually had to be removed! This is simply one of reasons I don't like the printed circuit board idea on amps.

Nevertheless, I did like this amp. Overall: top marks!

John.
