SERVICING OF A RED BEAR LEAD TUBE Mk 60 AMPLIFIER HEAD

Not a lot to say about this one really. They were manufactured in Russia, and were very well built and very sturdy (as you would expect from the Russians); not a bad amp overall. I believe they were distributed world-wide by Gibson, who eventually dropped them because of a lack of sales and interest?

I found and replaced just one dodgy cap.

Nice and tidy……well built too.

The pair of Sovtek 6L6’s were a bit under-par so I replaced these with my usual choice of JJ 6L6’s. One worth-while modification I did do though, was to rewire all the smaller tubes’ heaters for the use of ECC83/12AX7 standard range of tubes. These amps use the Russian 6N2P for all the pre-amp and drive. This tube is the same as the ECC83 apart from pin 9 being an internal screen whereas the ECC83’s pin 9 is a heater CT (centre tap). The customer was pleased with this small mod as prior to this he was unable to try different types/brands of tubes!

Job done!
