SERVICING OF A PEAVEY CLASSIC 50 COMBO AMPLIFIER

I believe this one came in from a shop, and I can’t remember what the problem was!. However, I’m sure it would have gone back fine after having had me around it! Certainly, I have never seen it again since!

Note the fan (on the left) which, when the back panel is in place, causes a tunnelling effect for keeping all the tubes cool.

Everything out again for whatever the problem was (?).

Everything back in!

I can remember a good few years back when I first saw one of these Peavey 50 watt chassis, I was dubious at the 50 watts from 4 x EL84’s but, sure as “eggs are eggs”, they do make the quoted power. The output bottles are run with about 400 volts on the plates and fixed bias to achieve this. Even with a quad of slightly tired Sovtek’s they still do it!
