CHAMP ELECTRONICS -" THE VINTAGE VALVE AMP HOSPITAL"

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND

SERVICING A SELMER STANDARD (TV8/T) 5 watt COMBO AMPLIFIER - CHASSIS ONLY

I have included this second Standard TV8/T as it has a slightly different layout to the one in the preceding article. It was brought to me as just the chassis, and it needed quite a lot of attention/components replacing, including an “open-circuit” output transformer primary winding. Hence no output transformer is shown on this photo!

Underside before any work. There were that many caps needing replacing on this one, and a few resistors. As everything is “wrapped” on these, it makes better sense to just simply change virtually everything! Also, notice how this one is built on a tag-strip rather than a group board, like the one in the previous article!

Both input jack sockets were very hit ‘n’ miss too. Here they have been replaced and are being wired on the outside of the chassis…..much easier to work on them like this!

The rewound output transformer back in place, together with a few new components and two replaced tubes.

All finished. Looks pretty nice & neat too……cool!!

Here is the customers (Ashley) testimonial e-mail when he got his amp back home.

"Hi John.

I put the amp back into its cab last night with the original speaker. It sounded very nice, so thanks for the great repair. That tremolo is unbelievable! Later on I connected it to the speaker in my Line 6 amp's Custom Celestion 12", 8 ohm, 75watt, and it sounded absolutely superb - it takes the bass up and the treble down, and when turned up fully gives a classic 70's "crunch", the sound I really hoped for!

Once again, many thanks. Ashley"
