Coming from Bonnie Scotland, this completely dead and “blowing the mains fuse” amp had already had a fair bit of previous work done.

Most of the caps had already been replaced and some resistors too…….these were all done fine.

As above.

All finished. The initial problem with the amp was one shorting HT rectifier diode. I changed both of these and put four in instead (two pairs, each in series). This makes them more reliable than just using two, due to the high in-rush voltage and current. I also replaced the “iffy” power on/off switch.

All amplifiers should have a screen under the chassis, as this reduces stray hum etc. Some companies use a thin piece of aluminium stapled down, whilst others use a kind of adhesive-backed tin foil. As you can see in the photo above, it had been ripped-out of this amp.

The replaced screening foil.

All tubes bubble-wrapped and packed-up inside the amp; ready for the return trip to Scotland.
