CHAMP ELECTRONICS -" THE VINTAGE VALVE AMP HOSPITAL"

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND

REPAIR OF A SOUND CITY 50 PLUS AMPLIFIER HEAD

Underside of chassis prior to any commencement of work.

The swelling & cracking of the Sprague pre-amp smoothing cap can be clearly seen here, quite common on old Sound City’s.

The swelling & signs of electrolyte leaking (white blebs) of the CCL main smoothing caps can be clearly seen here, again, quite common on old Sound City's.

The front panel as received, broken potentiometer and old style “gramophone knobs"!

Chassis top as received, note all the corrosion….has been very damp at some point!

The replaced pre-amp smoothing cap.

The replaced main smoothing caps.

Underside after all work carried out.

Finished & ready to go back in the case. I managed to find some knobs to complete the set.
