CHAMP ELECTRONICS -" THE VINTAGE VALVE AMP HOSPITAL"

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND

SERVICING A SOUND CITY LB200 Mk III AMPLIFIER HEAD

What more can I say other than these mothers are bloody loud, and really "kick-ass"!

She needed virtually all the main smoothing caps replacing though……as usual.

Some pretty tired looking main smoothing caps here! Like most Sound Citys, although most of the coupling caps were Mullard/Philips mustard's. However two of the drive caps were Dublier, and both of these were leaking……and hence were soon changed!

..........as above. With a couple more of the Dublier caps needing replacement.

Again…….as above.

Partridge transformers throughout and a new set of JJ KT88's…….supplied by the owner/customer John.

After all work completed, apart from just one broken fuse holder still to deal with.

As above.

As above. The two red main smoothing caps in the lower/left section of the photo were actually OK. This did give me a gut-feeling that these may have been changed previously, especially as there were signs of "Paper-Mache / Electrolyte" scattered/plastered around the chassis…….a typical proof of a blown capacitor at some point in time!
